Unfortunately Tessa has not had a good day today. We are very discouraged. Keep us in prayer that our faith will remain strong and our spirits high. We know in our heart of hearts that God is with us always and forever.
Despite changing the ventilator tube, Tessa's blood gas tests did not improve. Her carbon dioxide level was 99 today when it should be between 40 and 60. Her oxygen requirement has been high all day and at times she has required 100% oxygen to maintain adequate blood oxygen levels. Her x-ray's are white which indicates inflammation and poor lung expansion. The respiratory infection has progressed to the point that it is considered pneumonia. They have started the steroids to help decrease inflammation and hasten healing. They are also considering the possibility of placing her back on the oscillator to help keep her lungs and air sacs open. The answer lies in finding what works for Tessa and continuing that treatment.
Dr. Spencer came this evening for a followup eye exam. He did see some areas of concern that may require additional surgery but the ventilator could also be causing some abnormal findings. He is going to return on Friday for another eye exam before deciding how to proceed.
Fortunately, Tessa is still doing well with her feedings and they continue to increase the amount of milk she is getting through her feeding tube. She likes getting her milk. Because she is taking milk, they may remove her from the lipids and the hyperale liquid nutrition very soon. No matter how difficult it may be sometimes, for this and all things we give God praise.
