Unfortunately, Tessa gave us another scare today... and another test of faith. We know that God is in control but it is still very difficult when Tessa has a down day.
As the day progressed, Tessa's vital signs and blood gas readings continued to worsen. All attempts to make her more comfortable or increase her oxygen did nothing to improve her status. Even a visit from her "Greensboro Grandmother" Brenda did nothing to raise her spirits. Her blood pressure was very low and she also stopped urinating as she did a couple of weeks ago. Because of these issues and to avoid complications, they decided to once again stop Tessa's feedings. No more milk for now.
By 3:00 they decided to take her off the traditional ventilator and replace it with the high frequency jet ventilator. This achieves higher oxygenation of the blood using lower pressure by giving her a very high number of breaths per minute. Currently the ventilator is set to 420 breaths per minute and her blood gases are back to a desirable level.
When we returned from lunch, Tessa's color was greyish and pale. This was extremely scary for Nancy and I but now her color looks good. The new ventilator is working. The high frequency jet ventilator is similar to the oscillator that she was on at Women's Hospital.
Tessa was completely off medication except for a sedative as needed and some Zantac that was part of her liquid nutrition. As of today, this is no longer the case.
Because they suspect infection, she has been given two antibiotics today. In addition, she is on dopamine for blood pressure and received sodium bicarbonate for metabolic acidosis. They put an arterial line into her left arm to draw blood and a hep lock into her right arm to give her blood. She is currently receiving a blood transfusion. She is also getting a fentanyl drip as a sedative and papaverin to relax her arteries.
Fortunately, God does answer our prayers and things are looking better. They are now reducing her dopamine and they have reduced some settings on the ventilator. Her latest x-ray and blood gas tests are good and her blood pressure has increased. Mom and dad are in better spirits and God has given us peace. It is difficult seeing her like this so continue in prayer for all of us. God heals all manner of sickness.....those in which we know the cause and also those where
the cause is unknown.
Matthew 4:23
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

Just wanted to let you know, even though I am at home I am thinking about all 3 of you. She is a wonderful little baby and has so much fight in her. I can't wait to see you tomorrow!
May the Lord bless and keep you and give all 3 of you a peaceful night.
My thoughts and prayers are with you day and night. Our Lord is with Tessa and He will continue to give her strength. He will hold her in His loving hands!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I had Tessa on my mind and decided to check on her. I'm so sorry to hear that she's had a bad day but glad that things are improving. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. See you Monday.

I have been checking this website blog all day.. I woke up with Tessa on my mind around 5 a.m. this morning.. I am really sorry Tessa is having such a bad couple of days and I am praying for her to start getting better real soon.
It sounds like the staff at Brenners are all over her care.. That is reassuring.
Love to you all..

I am sorry to hear Tessa is having some bad days! I hope she starts feeling better and having better days again real soon. Please remember ya'll are in our thoughts and prayers everyday and also remember God is in control!
Just checking in. Sorry to hear that little Tessa is struggling. I don't know what it must be like for you and Nancy but God does and He will carry you. It's times like this that I think about that popular poem "Footprints". I also hear a verse from the Mercy Me song, "One thing greater than your strife is His grasp...So hold fast".
You are in my prayers.

Blessings come in many shapes,
In sizes large and small
But a brand new little baby,
is the sweetest of them all...
What a blessing it is to have little Tessa in our lives...we are also grateful for all the doctors and nurses whom are working around the clock to make sure our little angel is taken care of...hope things start getting better soon...
Love and miss you guys...xxoooxx

We are getting ready for church. I will be sure to put Tessa on our prayer chain. When two or more are gathered together in His name, He is sure to be there.... think of all that are gathered together in His name over Tessa!!
Remember God is faithful!!
Love you all
Patty
I had ya'll on my mind tonight and was just wondering how little miss Tessa is doing and if she has had a better day to day than the last few days. I keep looking for ya'lls up-dates for today, but I figured since ya'll haven't up-dated yet today that ya'll have had a very busy day. Take Care. Ya'll are in my thoughts and prayers daily!
