Family Time

She does not know it yet but Tessa is so fortunate to have family that cares for her so deeply. Nancy's family just left us to begin their 5 hour drive back to Northern Virginia. They were such a help to us while they were here......holding us up emotionally and also doing some needed things around the house. Obviously they also spent as much time as possible with little Tessa.

Today has been a day filled with visitations, meeting with the doctors and nurses and filing paperwork. As a result, I am posting to the blog a little late today. We are very thankful that Tessa had another restful night last night and is resting comfortably today. Even still, we are sometimes overcome with emotion and fought back tears earlier today. It is difficult to witness and comprehend the number of pricks and medications she is receiving on a continual basis. We take comfort in knowing that in a relatively short time, we will have a beautiful little girl who is laughing and playing and will not remember any of today's events.

Her ventilator has given her a break from working so hard to breathe. When she seems ready, they will try taking her off it again. She received another blood transfusion to increase the volume of blood in her system and more insulin for continuing high blood sugar levels. Her blood sugar level has decreased today.

For the first time last night, she went an extended period of time without urinating so she was given medication that increases the blood flow to her kidneys. She was also treated for dehydration because the caffeine and the other medications can cause this. This caused us some concern but thankfully, earlier today, all seemed to be working well....a #1 and a #2 in the diaper :-)
